Fuminari Araga

Born in Kyoto in 1972, Fuminari Araga shapes clay into forms that balance discipline with vitality. A graduate of the Kyoto Prefectural Ceramic Training Institute, he established his kiln in 1998 and now works from Yawata, Kyoto.

Araga is known for his kohiki slipware, applying white slip beneath a translucent glaze to create a soft, warm surface inspired by the understated beauty of Joseon dynasty ceramics. Avoiding decoration, he allows traces of throwing to remain visible as evidence of the maker's hand.

These kohiki wares reflect the quiet precision of his practice. Thrown entirely on the wheel, their balanced forms retain the natural rhythm of the making process. Faint stacking marks from firing remain, reminding us that each piece is individually crafted and fired.
